When creating websites or apis with complex business logic I want to seperate them from the web project itself. In old ASP i would do assemblies and reference them, which does not work ins asp 5
Note sure where you got this idea. Nuget packages are just assemblies with meta data. You can reference assemblies in dnx projects. You can have multiple projects in the same solution (i.e. a data layer project, a web(mvc) project, a domain model project, etc). None of that has changed.
The purpose of nuget is to make it easier to distribute packages. There is no reason to make an internally used assembly a public nuget package.
